Jer:

Just a thought. British Airways (BAB) is No. 1 on the list, with 53% of operating profits derived from Asia. Up 1 5/8 today at 93 15/16, although it ran above 96. UAL news today:

United Airlines' total scheduled revenue passenger miles (RPMs) decreased 2.2 percent in February vs. the comparable month in 1997. . . . The fall-off in Pacific revenue passenger miles is attributable to the recent economic downturn in Asia, where currency devaluations and debt crises have negatively affected growth through most of the region and pushed some countries into recession. The adverse effect on travel appears to be larger than originally anticipated. Accordingly, United expects full-year system revenues to be lower than originally planned.

Perhaps something similar in store for BAB? As of Feb. Feb. 9, 1998, "British Airways PLC announced Dec. '97 three-month diluted earnings per ADS of $1.07 vs. $1.50 for the same period a year ago, and nine-month diluted earnings of $5.82 vs. $7.58 for the same period a year ago."
