Lamar The best way to understand what NASA Commercial Technology does is to go back to their website and read their mission statement. Basically, lets say the Department of Defense (DOD) has a particular need for a certain type of heretofore unknown technology, such as say a spacesuit that can withstand certain temperature changes and capable of holding lightweight equipment and maybe a lightweight powerful battery pack. (or whatever their needs are) night vision etc. They then list all types of technology needed, companies, individuals or whoever, then submit their wares, inventions ideas etc to them. They then award grants to the winning candidates to finance their projects and now the DOD benefits. They don't actually finance projects, they provide awards and grants. The site is very interesting to read when you have a lot of time. c
