qdog,

I still think his best option is to license the basic O/S to the browser guys and say integrate your stuff, becasue that is where we are taking it.

I think Bill will take you up on the offer. He will do it in couple of quarters. After he has killed all the browser guys.

Joe

It's slightly funny to see budding oligarpolists like Barksdale and McNealy insisting that no new laws are necessary, but only that only existing anti-trust laws should be pursued. Intuitively and instinctly they know the wealth destructive powers that those Old Men across the isle hold, and that once the regulatory power is unleashed, there is never going back. No one ever said selling one's (not yours qdog, I'm not sure the senators are interested in cannine souls) soul is an easy thing.

There is no greater dichotomy than what happened in the Senate hearing this week. On one side you have men who created billions of wealth, and on the other side you hav men who taxed trillions of wealth. The self-righteous tone that the senators took in questioning Bill Gates is a disgrace and a farce. What happened in the hearing wasn't the People vs. Bill Gates, it was the Mob vs. Bill Gates. I weep for the feable defense of capitalism that Bill Gates put up in the hearing. He should not have enlisted Bill Gates; he should have enlisted Milton Friedman.

This fight is not about browsers, OS, or personalities. It's about the fight between capitalism and a confused mob who misunderstand what capitalism and free markets are really about.
