U.S. HEADLINE STOCKS - Issues to watch March 6

NEW YORK, March 6 (Reuters) - Issues to watch this morning:

U.S. stocks were firm in London.

-- Motorola Inc (MOT - news) issued a profit warning after the
market closed Thursday. Motorola expects first-quarter earnings
per share to fall well below analysts' estimates. The company's stock
traded at 51 after the announcement, down over four points from its
unofficial close of 55-11/16.

-- 3Com Corp (COMS - news) said it had adjusted its financial results
for 1997 following a review by federal authorities, to better reflect
its 1997 acquisition of modem maker U.S. Robotics Corp. 3Com posted
fourth-quarter earnings of $0.43 per diluted share, compared with
$0.30 a year earlier. 3Com closed Thursday at 35-5/16.


-- Colgate-Palmolive Co's (CL - news) new Total toothpaste grabbed
14.5 percent of the nearly $2 billion U.S. toothpaste market in the
first four weeks of the year, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Colgate closed at 79-3/16.

-- Staples Inc [Nasdaq:SPLS - news] released fourth-quarter earnings
that appeared to beat analysts' estimates. Staples shares traded at
22-1/4 after the bell, up 13/16 from an unofficial close of 21-7/16.

-- Danaher Corp (DHR - news) said Friday its board had recommended a
two-for-one stock split. The stock closed at 70-12/16.
