Joel,

I gained on some trades and lost on others. Bottom line of all the losses and gains is negative.

Lets say that I can elect trader status and had a net loss of 10k, can this 10k be used to offset income from other job?

Lets also assume that I held not positions into 1998. Don't know what mark to market is. Thought it had to something with losing positions which are held to the new year.
