Grommit....

Your comments on the situation were neatly put in this message, and I agree with you totally..

I would like to add that the backlog comments trouble me somewhat because of the offhand way they are given. We were told that the backlog for ECO is $245 mil.. and the number includes reoccurring business. This leads me to believe that the number is not precisely firm although probable. The number $900 for the combined company is probably the same sort of number. Last years combined revenue was $787 mil and the difference (113 mil) may be in Davie & MDC another probable but not exactly precise.

I think that because of the generalities we were fed, we are in dire need of a definitive statement like a 10k of complete annual statement. Most CC's that I have listened to have been much higher quality..This one was a big disappointment.

Maybe I had low expectations, but I didn't find the c/c that bad.

I finally got around to listen last night. I was expecting
the worse but it was not that bad in my opinion. Sure, the prepared
part was read [it always is]. Some answers were given confidently
and quickly. However, no doubt McGinis feels bad about the $1.20
guidance as he really stumbled over the answer to that question.

I suspect that one thing not said is that they really struggled
with C&L over proper accounting, which accounted for the delay.
But that's behind us now. The only thing we have ahead is that
ECGOF will now be paying lots more taxes in '98 which will make
the net income per share growth not that exciting this year. So
in some ways the stock is properly valued but we should see good
growth in the future given that the company stays on track.

Michael

>>3. They were completely unprepared for the questions which indeed shows how inept
they are at managing the investment community. 'Call back later if you have specific
questions because we only talk in generalities',

Great fundamentals, crappy PR, just what the doctor (P Lynch) ordered.
