<<When you think about it, it's hard to imagine singing and dancing to the story of a PR gang member who stabs people and then spends his life in prison. I dunno... Although the gang thing worked for Westside Story.>>

precisely.

but west side story had: robert wise, jerome robbins, leonard bernstein,
stephen sondheim...and a brilliant cast. a few advantages to any story/plot/book i should say.

capeman music? i have heard none.

as to cats: the book of practical cats (close anyway) always
struck me as about as appealing a basis for a musical as say,
a story about <<a PR gang member who stabs people and then spends his life in prison>> but taht's just me.

memories is fine, but it goes just so far...
