<<Is there any correlation between market price (in general) and April tax payments?>> (by the way, how do you guys get the nifty italic font for quotations?)

My guess would be that tax season, which really begins in January and escalates in April, just adds some noise to the reporting season which begins all over again in April. It would be very hard to cut out the tax effect from the earnings effect to get any statistically significant correlation. JMO.

Jack:

This year is a big mess as far as the L-T cap. gain tax is concerned.

We have two effective dates to deal with -- before/after May 7, and before/after July 29.

In addition to the above, congress/Clinton changed their minds in the middle of the discussions and CHANGED the period required for Cap. gain treatment from 1 year to 18 months. Still confused and not happy about it.
