<..They'll need to justify T1 local loops....>

Bandwidth.

<..the opportunity to compress the voice (G.729) thereby using less bandwidth AND the 3810 can be used on frame relay networks..>

Not toll quality. Not for Fortune 1000 / carriers / and most government.

<.. I think your definitition of an overlay network is different than mine. I think what you're saying is that ATM CPE on an ATM network makes more sense than an IP edge on an ATM network...right?..>

This is true, but I was refering to the ITU-T decision to build toward a BISDN single universal broadband network using ATM switching end to end. The agreed upon ITU-T ATM spec is what carriers worldwide will follow.

<..BUT, if multiservice on IP works it will have a huge impact on ATM access...>

Agreed, but it currently doesn't, and carrier deployments are expected to begin in the first half of 98.

<.. go long through Q2...by then competitors and competing technoloiges will soften this market and eat at YURI's lead...>

Smaller portion of a MUCH larger pie.. and Yurie isn't sitting around. They plan to keep and capitalize on their lead with partnerships, new products and maybe some more acquisitions. I would look for significant revenue and earnings momentum going into 99... and likely beyond (if they aren't acquired by then), but that's pretty much the extent of MY time horizon.
