Laird,

Thanks so much for your suggestion. Unfortunately, as I just
found out this morning!, my SELL/SHRT AMZN, LIMIT 73 order
that was placed before market opened yesterday (3/5/98) was
REJECTED by broker due to AMZN "being unavailable for short."

And when I called them today, they also reported it unavailable.
Thought that would be interesting to you all.
Waterhouse Securities is the broker.

Ahh shucks, guess I gotta focus on AOL, YHOO, XCIT, CGMI, and SPLN.

Cheers,

David

P.S. It's that dang 5-hour time difference with New York.
When I place a trade at night, it shows as PENDING, not OPEN.
And I'd have to get up at 4 AM to see if they accepted it.

<< AMZN is selling at 109x sales... BKS and BGP... How will
AMZN ever start making money? >>

Wow! A new bearish argument! ;)

What you guys lack is vision. You focus too much on WHAT they are
selling and ignore the most important element:

THE BUSINESS STRATEGY

You see, it's not about books. It's the BUSINESS MODEL. AMZN can
use this model to sell ANYTHING. They are facilitators. They can
use this model for books, CDs, computer games, PCs, PC hardware,
clothing, etc.. IT DOESN'T MATTER!

They do JIT retail.

And, B&N and others are not set up to expand into these other areas.
I bet they will end up killing themselves (and their earnings) by
trying to unseat AMZN as the internet king.

Reminds me ALOT of Walmart in the beginning. Nobody believed in
WALMART because of existing KMARTS, TARGETS, etc... They found
a new way to do business and exploited it.

This is what AMZN is doing. They are unseating the 'big boys' with
a fresh new business model (JIT dist AND the internet). B&N and
Buckwheat(?) are the KMARTs and Targets.

Their WEB site is among the TOP 15 in hits, and exposure is huge.
(read their last Q report). This cannot be taken away from them.
On the net, EXPOSURE IS KING. AMZN has this, and name recognition
is rapidly building. Their name is everywhere on the net.
