> Addi, what you described in your post is exactly what we call
"timing the market"!

Timing the market implies some sort of wild speculation from the people who try to do such timings. In my view if this so called "timing the market" is based on the obvious reasons then I rather call it being sensible enough to act logically and not neccessarily trying to time the market!

For example take a look at today's market actions. I dont know how more obvious this can be! You have a definite short fall of earnings for this current quarter and things dont look very good for at least another 2 quarters or so either (or at best things are uncertain at this time). The growth rate of high techs have been slashed from 10% earlier last month to around 3.5%-4% as of today. And yet the market is going up as if none of these things matters and valuations are just fine and dandy!

Even for a bull like myself, this is absolute irrational exuberance at its best and a very obvious one! So it would be illogical for me just to sit there and not try to take advantage of the situation and to sell into the rally and wait to finally market comes to realize is irrational exuberance and go to the other extreme and change it into an irrational pessimism (as it always does)!

If indeed, in the final analysis, stock prices are based on how profitable the underlying companies are then dont you think now is the time to time the market and sell into these illogical rallys (to me anyway) and to target to buy what you are selling now later at much lower prices.
