Petz,

DirectX is primarily a gaming API. Most new games make use of it to some extent.

P,
Where can I find this K6-3D chip? or benchmarks on it.

Petz,

Re: "That will probably eliminate their use in typical office applications
such as spreadsheets (need double precision) and word processors."

And I bet that AMD yield problems at .25um will eliminate the K6+3D in
most other applications. <ggg>

Petz, <I haven't heard of any compiler support for them. That will probably eliminate their use in typical office applications such as spreadsheets (need double precision) and word processors.>
I tend to be less categorical. Instead of "eliminate" I would
say "delay", and I am much sure the single precision will be
more than enough for most common applications.

And the problem is not for compilers to support new
instructions, but rather these SIMD require different
thinking. I think the driver layer will be the first
to adopt these innovations, and this will not require
any high-level compilers to support them (since the
critical coding is done in assembler anyway, and
anyone can instantly write proper macroses for the
new instructions in binary format).

Regards,

Ali
