Greg, The conference is almost like "Old Home Week" for LGNDers. Bert O'Malley is a LGND consultant. LGND has published with Steven Kliewer. Cary Weinberger is a former post-doc of Evans and former Ligand employee, Donald McDonnell is a former Ligand employee, David Mangelsdorf is a former Evan's post-doc, and Pierre Chambon may be a Ligand consultant. The above is only a partial lists. Additional presenters may have present or former affiliations.

As far as the investment community is concerned, its hard to say. They pay more attention to the investment presentations.

Sounds like the Lake Tahoe presentation may have caused a stir and a Science publication (with corresponding press release) could get some attention (but that is in the STATs area - the nuclear hormones are primarily in the IR arena, although there is cross-talk).

Speaking of the investment community paying attention, Joe Kernan just did his CNBC Market lab segment which featured the Pharmas.
WLA set an all time high today because of Lipitor and Rezulin sales. ZEN was close to an all time high because of Astra's short merger list. PNU was up because it is on the short merger list in general and SGP was up 1 3/8 because of Astra's list. PFE was also mentioned as was MRK's 4 1/4 point gain because of the new oral asthma drug. GLX and LLY were also mentioned. Looks like merger mania is moving the entire sector north.
