Car nav in Asia (no table yet) . . .

I'm still going to post a chart on the Japanese car nav market, but want to check it out a little more. No one dominates in Japan, but Trimble has a significant presence.

Korean electronics and auto companies are buying into the Auto PC. According to the Korea Herald of January 15, 1998, Samsung, Daewoo and Hyundai Electronics are all on board. Samsung wants to release its first products in the by July of this year, with mass production anticipated by 2Q 1999, at an estimated price of $900 (nice to see the $1000 barrier predicted to be breached). Daewoo Telecom (competing against TRMB in the US with a portable system) plans an Auto PC release in July or August. Hyundai Electronics Industries expects to have a product to supply as OEM equipment to its sister company, Hyundai Motor Company, by late 1999 or early 2000.

MARKET PREDICTION FOR car computers: Samsung predicts that the automobile computer market will have units sales of 350,000 in the year 2000; four million sales in 2002, and ten million unit sales in 2005. Don't know if they mean Auto PC, or all car computers.
