<<Who do they compete with most directly and why is MRV better? ASND now CSCO have gigabit capability without going to ATM, so why would a customer go with MRV? Believe it or not, I can't find this basic competitive info in the package the company sent me or in the research report from SB. Any help would be appreciated.>>

MRVC's revenues come from 78% networking and 22% optical products in Q4. This will change with the Xyplex acquisition. CSCO sells mainly to large enterprises, while MRVC sells to small-midsize companies. MRVC is very strong in Europe, where CSCO does not compete much.

CSCO has not shipped GE yet, whereas MRVC has been shipping for some time. MRVC's price per port is less than half of CSCO's, I believe (don't have numbers at hand). MRVC's FE/GE product line is more complete and their cost structure is lower.

Why should a smaller company pay twice as much for CSCO products when
a MRVC product is as good or better? Besides The market is big enough for all players.

ASND is in the WAN arena, MRVC does not compete with them or vice versa - except with the Xyplex acq. there may be some overlap in the RAC/RAS area. For now that has nothing to do with GE, however.
