what do you say to yourself that would convince a doubter like me to buy AMAT.

Let me just sat this. I'm not saying the stock will not go down. But relative to the market, which in my opinion is over bought, AMAT is either fairly valued, or slightly below.

Has AMAT set a new high like DELL? Hell no. Does DELL have downward risk? Hell yeah. I would rather risk another 20% correction in AMAT, than buy into a rather over bought market. The only other save place is to go 100% cash. The lower AMAT drops or hits, the higher it springs back up, like a rubber ball. To me, 6 points down will be peanuts, where people that are waiting will more than likely end up buying 6 points above the bottom on the way back up.
