Why don't stocks under $5 do reverse-splits? The results are usually ugly. THe reverse of the psychological boost stocks get from splits.

There are times when companies are forced to do a reverse-split to maintain their exchange listing. You'll see a stock selling for 3 1/2 do a 4 for 1 reverse split and sell down 20% to 10 1/2.

At 3 1/2 the stock trades partly on its apparent "cheap price", but at $14 it no longer seems cheap and company fundamentals become more important, so down it goes.
