I agree, Darrell, that it seems as though MSFT has been
softening some of its business practices lately in an
effort to take steam out of the DOJ arguments and congress
concern. This will likely succeed to some degree, but
also may allow a competitor or two more of a toehold in
the marketplace compared to a more aggressive MSFT. And
I suspect that within a year, the landscape may look very
different again. If the landscape looks more saturated
with MSFT, then DOJ will continue the chase. If less,
then DOJ will move on to other things, but MSFT will have
to fend off its foes in the marketplace. Will anything
that DOJ can do now have an affect on MSFT in marketplace
in the interim? It seems to me, the only real threat is
if they bring a new suit regarding Win98, and call for
an injunction WRT distribution, and this in someway slows
MSFT from releasing Win98. Although I think this will
really be more of a psychological battle and short term
revenue loss, since I don't think Win98 will make MSFT any
more or less vunerable to attack by competitors--it is not
a significant upgrade technologically, although it may be
important to maintain revenue stream. WinNT5 is a much
more important concern, and if delay of Win98 in any way
slowed procurement decisions for WinNT5 (which I doubt),
that could have an impact.

By the way, MSFT didn't get to 88, so I didn't get all the
puts I wanted, but did get some near 85, and did unload them
yesterday. This looks like a support level nearterm.
