CPQ is advertising $599 systems at Computer City...DELL is pushing $3000 Pentium II 300MHz systems...wonder which ones have the higher margins ??

However, I think this is a great time to SHORT DELL stock !!!!
It is way overpriced, IMO, even though it is a great company executing to perfection !!!!

Joey,
The problem with the sub-1000 pc, which the inept management of CPQ did not see, was that it brorught down componenent prices, and with the free fall in memory and asia, their advantage was clearly neutralized, both in the consumer and in the business area.

They are now trying further price cuts in notebooks too.

Now in addition to price competition, they also have the DEC merger to distract them.

It appears that their consumer pc's are doing OK. But they need to wait for a couple of months, when the low prices PentiumII 233 systems from Taiwan and Asian manufacturers hit the stores.
