That may be going a little far. Congressional hearings are always a circus, but it's all part of the educational process. This is old and from enemy territory. I bring it up mostly for the conclusion.

When the room had cleared, leaving the post-fight detritus of scattered printouts, empty water glasses, discarded film cans and crumpled notes, Hatch sat back wearily in his chair to contemplate the battle.

''It was a little like pulling teeth,'' Hatch said. ''Microsoft got where it is today because it is tough and scrappy. Now they have to learn to live by the rules that govern monopolies.''

How unfair. Anyway, the rules haven't been enforced much lately, and old Orrin's going to have to answer for his actions if the current composition of the federal judiciary leads to the rules not being enforced much in the present and future. If things start going against Bill, maybe the Objectives and FOB's will all rise up and get that coveted statutory immunity that MLB has. We'll see.

Cheers, Dan.
