Price competition? Dell is the competition, everybody is chasing them. The point will come when the competition catches up. I hope to get out before then.
In principal, I agree with you, unfortunately. I think that there is more then an outside chance that DELL will see some slowing in their market, eventually. And, at this moment, I find it hard to believe that this problem is limited to the "low end" market. BUT, so far, even CPU has stated that the low end is killing them. So far, all the evidence points to the low end models only.
Personally, I would never buy one of the cheapies, they are just glorified web surfer/typewriters as far as I'm concerned. Those things aren't even capable of running the software I use, not even my games. My friends who have bought them as first time buyers become frustrated and want something more powerful after they use them for a short period of time.

Personally, I have purchased computers, in this order, from: AST, Gateway, Compaq and Dell. So far, my best experience with the companies and their products has been with Dell. And, now, I don't ever anticipate on using any other compay again, I am sticking with Dell. That is one reason I bought the stock.

Good luck to you also,
Bill
