Dan,

God bless the chairman of the SEC, Mr. Levitt. Maybe something will be done about it after all.

Hmmmm.... yes, I've seen this. But isn't it rather stupid to initiate the channel stuffing rumor with the firm (SSB) that handles employee stock options? Or is it an indirect rumor, "accidentally" disclosed during the process of some employee excerising some stock option strategy?

Dan, to lend support to that story on insider trading. The week before last, the hotline that I subscribed to gave the heads up on Scientific Atlanta (SFA), and previewed what was going to be talked about at the two day conference which began last thursday. Namely, that the cable companies have started to order *interactive* digital set top boxes, and that they are going to enmasse enter a new growth phase centered around interactive cable programming (video on demand, email, etc). SFA is the only company that makes *interactive* digital set top boxes. Other companies make digital set top boxes but they are not interactive. Also, SFA owns the programming, and they have an 18 month lead. Last Monday, SFA traded at 7x normal volume. On Friday, halfway through the conference, it traded at 3x normal volume. People with the knowledge beforehand got in early...Friday, after hours, analysts came out of the meeting strongly impressed, and reports started to hit the online services. If upgrades don't start coming out immediately, it's probably to let favored clients get a crack at SFA first.
