Re: always buy on BAD news when blood is running in the streets

This kind of advice would have you buying a $28 stock and holding it at $24.

My motto: don't try to be a hero or catch a falling knife.

I'm not selling my shares, but won't buy any more until the stock actually starts going in the opposite direction.

James,
I second buying when blood is running in the streets. Right now it is only a matter of when to buy, not if I'm going to buy.

If that is your argument then you should have sold all your stocks today since it was good news. Yeah it is true that compaq is a good stock and you have to hold it for a while and deal with it. While that money stagnates in your account. Lets look this scenario if the market corrects about 10 -15 % from here to make it a true corrcetion which stocks do you think will be dumped from here. Compaq , Intel and
Motorola, and all the stocks that will have a pre-announcement from here till end of April. This market truly reminds me of the fall of 1995 where every bad news was discounted with good news. But if there is a correction people will be bowled over in this stock market correction. SOX made new lows in 1996 and still people kept ignoring
the soundview semi analyst. Watch it!!!

<<With the ALPHA CHIP and compaq's marketing skill it will make
CPQ a serious contend>> You must know more than CPQ's management does. They've been pretty lukewarm in their support of Alpha so far.

In a bigger sense, I think that the 12 months could be very damaging to CPQ's fortunes. The PC market will clearly go into a major price war, here in the U.S. Meanwhile, CPQ is picking up a significant mess in DEC that will divert management from the other challenges they have.

Overall, this is a very risky stock...

James,

Good point. That is probably what I will have to do.
