After extensive searching, the press has finally found someone who did not anticipate that Compaq was going to warn. Mrs Elenor Forsythe, aged 87, said the earnings short-fall caught her completely by surprise. "I guess I don't get out as much as I should," she added. Meanwhile Ascend is expected to trade up sharply on Monday in response to the sound of "the other shoe dropping". Said one trader, "Compaq's announcement certainly takes the tension out of the market."
