FYI, a "specialist" in NYSE is a market maker, NASDAQ market maker is a market maker....Individual investor/trader, big or small is a market maker..Brokerages and brokers are market makers... All the exchanges either securities and or futures/commodities contract in the world are/has a market maker.. A market maker is a person who sell and buy securities, commodities, futures, etc.etc..... read the "fine line" ... Investor A: I would like to "make a market" by buying CPQ at market price... Investor B: I would like to "make a market" by selling CPQ at market price.. <eom> just me... eL....
