R,

Jack is right in his scenario ONLY in some engineering and other quant jobs where CPU/Graphic speed is paramount. For most IS applications the operator of the PC is by lighyears the slowest part of the work space. Most IS is still data entry/retrieval, database, ..etc where the SERVER/MINI/Mainframe does most of the work. And most PCs in commercial applications are waaaaaay overpowered for what uses they have. Typically, the only need for 300MHZ PII would be in the IS group. (Engineering/CAD/CAM uses a totaly different product).

I would buy the least expensive, best supported, desktops for everyone but IS. They would get DEC Alphas with NT4W. .. ;-)
