Business looking for consistent pricing and consistent long term relationship. Only some individuals looking for one time fire sale. DELL would not be affected by CPQ's fire sale.

Repeat that again to yourself "....71 is the top...71 is the top...", doesn't that sound ridiculous? Dell will be easily over 75 by April 1st. Further, would you seriously buy a discounted 200mhz when the 333s will soon be less than $2K? In the final analysis it is the excellent service that keeps Dells customers, I have been constantly impressed w/ their service from the day, several years ago,when they instantaneously faxed me product info before I hung up the phone with their 1-800 folks. When we researched which PCs to buy, DELL's name always came to the front of the pack. Moore's Law says that Dell will have a steady stream of buyers for the foreseeble future. Remember, 71 is the top, 71 is the top,.....hehehehe.. come on now....that is plain 'ol silly...71 71 71 71.......

With component prices dropping like rocks, Dell's costs must be much less than CPQ's, When you consider that last week DELL built what they sell this week, while CPQ built that same unit weeks ago at much higher component prices. BTW, what exactly are the current TURNS comparisons ? When you add in the fact that CPQ has distributors and resellers taking a big chunk of their potential profit margins, it gets even more dramatic.

I am just surprised the differences have taken this long to show in the bottom line.

It seems to me that DELL could really hurt CPQ by letting the channel sell their products. They could be shipped directly from the DELL factory and the distributors and resellers would invoice their customers. There are still a lot of customers that DELL loses access to by going direct. They prefer the wide range of products avaiable through the reseller channel.

BTW, I think DELL is doing a great job, but their stock price is ridiculous.
