Gary, to the best of my knowledge, there is no law that requires companies to preannounce. I think that they do that to avoid possible lawsuits, as soon as management sees in the numbers coming out of their sales and shipping departments that changes from prior forecasts are possible, they let everyone know. Today, a CEO can get a daily printout of the current status of sales, shipments, receivables and inventories, and as a result can take at once appropriate actions to optimize cash deployment and utilization.
