Are you a "spooky soul"? From last week's (Mar 2nd) Barron's column "Up and Down Wall Street" by Alan Abelson:

As with America Online and Yahoo!, moreover, Amazon is a favorite of the strange creatures who haunt the chattery precincts of the Web where stocks are touted. We don't mean to be too hard on those designated touting outlets; if nothing else, they keep the many spooky souls who frequent them occupied and off the streets. We find a nice irony in the on-line affection for Amazon's stock; after all, many of the people bulling it so feverishly are the very same souls who tirelessly proclaim the death of print and the new age of electronic media; yet here they are, getting all lathered up over a company that deals in ... books.

What continues to nag us about Amazon, apart from the absurdity of its valuation and its failure so far to show a profit, is competition.

Oh I had a good laugh over that column. That was the nicer things Alan had to say about Amazon. The guy really does have a way with words, and every single column just drips with sarcasm, in a very funny way.

Thank you Dell. That's going to save our bacon. I was talking to Jeff about shorting CPQ a couple of weeks ago, but never did. After buying Tandem and Digital, they are now an unfocused company.
