[dslcon/gte]

greetings shlomi

thanks for pointing out the (correct) dslcon dates... had forgotten it was next week... would seem an appropriate forum for an announcement...

the westell thread does believe a gte/wstl announcement is imminent.. but have for a couple of months now...

it turns out that fujitsu and gte formed a joint venture together in 1987 which was known as Fujitsu GTE Business Systems... the following year it was merged with fujitsu business systems and the Customer Premise Equipment Division of Fujitsu America and today is known as simply Fujitsu Business Communication Systems...

"The present company and its predecessors have shipped more than 4.5 million lines of digital PBX systems to more than 33,000 customer sites. Headquartered in Anaheim, Calif., Fujitsu Business Communication Systems employs approximately 1,000 people throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and parts of South America."

also

"GTE Telephone Operations has been a distributor of Fujitsu customer premise equipment since 1987....

GTE maintains 8 regional offices and a sales force in excess of 200 people in the 48 contiguous states. GTE has honored Fujitsu with Vendor Quality Awards in past years for excellent support and quality products..."

and hadn't realized that sprint as well distributed fujitsu equipment:
"A distributor since 1994, Sprint's local telephone companies market and distribute Fujitsu customer premise equipment.... Sprint's Local Telecom Division is part of Sprint Corporation, which provides local telephone service to more than 3000 communities in 19 states.

and more on the recent history of fbcs (including gte in earlier portions):

"...Since 1990, Fujitsu Business Communication Systems has seen tremendous growth. In addition to expanding its core business through direct sales and distribution channels across the country, the company has expanded its product portfolio to include video conferencing, call center solutions, computer telephone integration and asynchronous transfer mode transmission equipment. Not only in the United States, but also in Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America as of 1994. All the while manufacturing a majority of equipment in Anaheim...

Fujitsu Business Communication Systems' "Multimedia Integration Strategy" uses these technologies to provide customers with the voice, data and video integration needed to enhance business communications and become more productive. The company provides customers with a "one stop shop" for the tools and transmission backbone to build networked multimedia applications. And customers can depend on Fujitsu for manufacturing quality products. The company's manufacturing headquarters recently earned ISO 9001 quality certification from the international standards board..."
