Codd at IBM invented relational databases in the 60's, and the SQL language. In fact his theories went beyond anything that got implemented as standard relational databases. This is generally acknowledged, Codd has gotten his awards for it, and I'm sure that Stonebreaker would hastily acknowledge it too, if he saw this post. He has lots to his own credit, he doesn't need credit for Codds work.

Funny how these rumors get started. Depends on how old you are I guess, because we don't have very good history books in this field.
