Syncro: must agree in almost complete detail with Clark as regards history, whys, and wherefores of breaking up ma bell. I dislike the government intervening in a free market economy as much as the next guy, and doubtless more than most. But Clark is right: the burden of proof is on the government, but there are times when it is the only way to RESTORE competition to the marketplace.
Note that I am not taking a position--yet--in the current MSFT case. I would like to hear more facts and arguments. My leaning is that Bill has us all by the cajones, but I'm willing to give him the right to state his case in court, fair hearing, impartial judge--all the right stuff. But if it is necessary to return to a more level playing field by putting some strictures on MSFT business practices, then that is what will have to be done and the ONLY entity that could conceivably do it is the government. Unfortunately.
