So
instead of eating myself out of depression or spending all night thinking about LISA, I
spent alot of time micro-analyzing the charts and technicals.

oh bummer...but I guess I can forgo that if it helps us all make money

btw, none of those dates was a friday....sometimes things happen differently when there is a weekend intervention....just a thought...

Power to the Put people Monday...

and Alien tech-

Unfortunately, I will not have time to look at the referenced dates until tonight.

Damn, I just had to break up a fight and forgot what I was going to say. I'm sorry I didn't just give my old machines to a school or something instead of passing them down to the family. The oldest spends until the wee hours on mIRC chat and the other two battle over video games on my wife's cheap Sony because their machines don't have CD-ROM.

Um, what data are you looking for? Perhaps I may be able to find a site that would supply historical data. I know of two firms that sell tick data. I would send you a file but all my data is on a Mac. Probably would not be usable for you. I have not quite finished making the splitter cable for the Gateway as yet.

Also, I'm glad you posted to me. It reminded me to get the older one to download that data for the Excel sheet. I know that file will be compatible as Excel data may be used "cross platform", if that's the way to describe it.

Come to think of it, if he gets the data to work in the spreadsheet then I can get him to download a few years of data and Excel can create a chart for you from it. I have to wait until he wakes up, though. I was not kidding about his internet jag.

Hi Don,
this is exciting news.
I have end-of-day data, some going back up to five years. (Dow,SPX)
Will that be enough to do backtesting, and what do i look for?

TIA

donald,
what software do you use for your anlaysis? it sounds like you can customize it and test based on history. this sounds very ineresting. i go by my gut feel about the direction of the market for short term trades. most of the time i enter into the trades too early and would like to use some real tools to increase the profits on my trades.

for example, i have been expecting a significant pullback in all indexes for the last month. other than recent weakness in technology, this just hasn't materailized. i have increased my shorts to about 50% of holdings, cash at 10% and long 40%. i have sold calls against all long holdings and am waiting( sometimes not so patiently) for the inevitble. cpq should really open some eyes on monday. there will be plenty more earnings surprises to come. i see our first substantial back to back down days for most indexes on mon and tues. this market is so euphoric that we may bounce from there, but i think this run has finally run out of steam and we may sell off for most of the week. thats about as technical as i can i get when i go by my gut feelings.

this market is crazy and may head up further after a few down days but i have been saying to any friend or family member thet would listen, that i felt we would set the annual high in the first week of march. time will tell.
