CPQ can buy "market share" but it isn't meaningful unless it's for repeat buyers. CPQ chose to buy DEC but DELL chose the alliance with Wang Labs, and Wang is making a deal with Olivetti. DELL has the service area covered for its current horizon.

JP,

You are talking like DELL doesn't support its' customers! Let me explain that BOEING (you know that LITTLE AIRPLANE MAKER in the northwest) buys DELL by the PALLET! DELL has an ONSITE rep to handle all of the problems that may arise from an account that size, if they should occur! BOEING is VERY HAPPY! THEY buy a LOT of MACHINES! ( think that they have ~40K machines, maybe more!)

As for the 'channel', I think that both DELL and GTW should BTO for the time being!

MHO,

Ken
