The author compares the future state of networking to today's computer market, where Compaq and Dell essentially distributors, and intel is the real computer manufacturer. Over time, he says, the same thing will happen to networking companies: "In future, Cisco and Ascend will be like Gateway and Dell today -- distributors of advanced silicon". Thats very astute thinking...but I've heard other prolific thoughts from those people at Red Herring. Concerning the communications industry in whole. Don't forget the influence of Bill Gateway<g> I heard he's up on Capitol hill pushing his new political action commitee?<g> No honest.You can forget about campaign fund legislation this year.IMO Jeff
