Qwest buying LCI International.

See biz.yahoo.com for details. Looks like QWST is no longer content to sell capacity to other telcos. New competition for WCOM?

I just found out about this thread. Neat. And as an optical theoretician I can only hope you are right about the paradigm shift. A couple of questions for you. What do you think about the company HLIT Harmonic Lightwaves? They seem to have excellent technology but they are very small and their stock hasn't done anything at all for two years. Can you recommend a book that could be fairly technical on the engineering aspects of all this lightwave technology stuff? Finally, this may be off the subject, but I seem to remember you from the early 80's Reagan error as something of an anticapitalist anti-free market "fascist" who wanted to make drugs illegal. Have you now changed your mind and embraced the free market or what? Sorry for the strong language but there really is no other word for someone who would control the flow of mind altering substances.

Mr Gilder,

I really have enjoyed your newsletter. Do you have any thoughts on NETZ ( Zulutek) and their competition with Doubleclick?

Thank you for your response. Johanna
