Sam re: said Rambus' 32-device-per-channel limitation will restrict systems using 64-Mbit-generation chips to a maximum capacity of 256 Mbytes, which is too small to service high-end PCs, workstations, and servers.

Has or is Rambus working to solve the above issue?

Greg

It is my understanding from talking with the people at Rambus during Comdex97 in Las Vegas that you will be able to use rdram with any system7 processor once the 100mhz bus speed chipsets are put on motherboards. Maybe I'm over simplifing the engineering? I know other companies are working on the chipsets other than Intel. I don't really have a clue as to whats involved. But I suspect boards will appear as soon as rdram modules start being produced.

Sam and thread,

A further confirmation of what we already know:

Matsushita to use U.S. interface chip technology

TOKYO, March 9 (Reuters) - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd (NYSE:MC - news; 6752.T) (MEI) and its subsidiary Matsushita Electronics Corp (MEC) said on Monday they will use interface technology developed by U.S. firm Rambus Inc [Nasdaq:RMBS - news] for semiconductors in commercial products.

As a first step, MEI and MEC plan to produce image processing chips and Rambus dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips in the year from April 1999.

The technology, for high-speed data transfer between chips, will provide high-definition and high-speed data transfer for use in generation of computer graphics and other functions, it said.
