Aki, a couple of comments:

1.) Just opened a 55-gallon drum of whup-ass, going to Houston to pour it all over CPQ management. <gggg>
2.) Your point well taken re: amat management in denial last fall, but with CPQ we're talking about knocking off 525 million (35 cents) of profit from ML conference Tuesday until warning Friday.
3.) I have survived CPQ crashes in the past. They warned once in '91 and the stock crashed to 22. Since then the stock has split 3-1, 5-2, and 2-1. So from the last major crash stock is up 15x, Major buying opportunity in CPQ coming next week. Company will not lose their leadership position.

Re:.... management at amat did not see 95 comming and in november last year were in denial that sea was going to have any sinificant effect on amat's earnings

This is a ludicrous statement....are you saying they had their heads in the sand?? AMAT mgt. derives their guidance from talking w/ their customers....as of last oct. they were going to be buying equipment come this year....once the asian crisis hit a crescendo they backed off until there was more certainty. But saying that mgt had their heads in the sand is IMO unfair since AMAT cannot make guidance counter to what their customers are telling them....all they can do is to pass along what they are being told.....and they are more forthright than practically any other name out ther.
