A pagan is not necessarily a witch, purething.

Incidentally, are you by any chance Surething's virginal young sister? Surething is sure sweet!!!

The Webster's definition of pagan is as follows: (1) HEATHEN, esp: a follower of a polytheistic religion (as in ancient Rome); (2) one who has little or no religion and who delights in sensual pleasures and material goods: an irreligious or hedonistic person.

In modern terms, the word PAGAN is usually used to signify someone who believes in earth as the mother, reveres all plant, animal and human life, and does not believe in the concept of a monotheistic God who guarantees an afterlife. Most pagans believe that life is to be enjoyed thoroughly in the everyday, because that is all we have, and most pagans are environmentalists, because since what we see is what exists, it needs to be preserved.

The singer Sinead O'Connor is a pagan, for example, and her lyrics reflect her belief system. Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac is definitely a pagan, but may also be a witch. Incidentally, Stevie's doctor told her at one point that if she did not stop using cocaine, her nose would fall off. The discussion of dysfunctional noses is an important subject at the Feelings thread on occasion.

A witch, on the other hand, is usually involved in ritual magic of a protective nature, at the very least. While there is a misconception that witches are evil, almost all witches practice wicca, or white witchcraft, and use the cycles of the planets and plants and herbs from the earth as a grounding part of their philosophy. Wicca comes from the ancient Celts, incidentally. It is a nature religion. White witches sometimes join covens, or groups of witches, but there are also manuals telling the secret spells, so that individuals can practice on their own.

Satanism is entirely different, although the two are often confused. Satanists are usually, but not always, teenagers who listen to heavy metal music, use drugs, wear all-black clothing, and have dysfunctional families. Satanists give witches a bad reputation, and that is unfortunate.

To make a long story short, all witches are pagans, but not all pagans are witches. Anticipating your next question, I am not a practicing witch, and would not know how to cast a spell even on my worst enemy, but I do revere nature and love looking at the moon.
