Oracle Says It May Buy Netscape if Stock Price Falls Further

Redwood City, California, March 7 (Bloomberg) -- Oracle
Corp. may purchase Netscape Communications Corp. if its stock
price falls further, President and Chief Operating Officer
Raymond J. Lane said in an interview with Nihon Keizai Shimbun,
Nikkei English News reported. Lane said Netscape's Internet
information services and server-oriented software development
divisions, which analysts have said could be sold separately,
might attract other bidders such as International Business
Machines Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc. and America Online Inc.,
which would compete strongly for the divisions. Lane also spoke
highly of Netscape's Internet technology and strong brand
recognition, NEN said.

Netscape shares closed yesterday at 19 3/16, and Oracle fell
3/4 to 25 5/16.
