sector, i am truly disappointed with your answer. no set time frame. you have not turned into an analyst from montsec ("i see possible market volatility")?

now to discuss your interesting quote:

Before Corporations will really open their pocketbooks for more powerful and capable PCs, they have to upgrade their networks significantly. - si

outside of engineers and developers, how many corporate workers need more bandwith? the vast majority use the pc for mundane tasks. i believe we will be waiting for the nt/95 merge until the next mass waves high end pc buying/replacement. at the earliest, year 2001.

i still have not seen anyone upgrading desktops to fiber or fast ethernet, the mode still seems switching and the servers and printers receiving the fast connections.

We see this core infrastructure upgrades beginning to occur now. - si

in what way do you see this beginning?

<Until new bandwidth intensive applications arrive at the desktop, there will be little
need to upgrade these boxes enmasse, beyond replacement purchase levels.

The internet is a major source for these bandwidth intensive applications to the
desktop, particularly when E-commerce really takes off. Others would be VPNs
with Video conferencing, multimedia E-Mail, FAX to the desktop, etc.>

real enmasse-usage will happen when PC/device adapts to our needs in an intuitive way instead of we clicking, pointing, asking and filtering down what we want; also have to be at affordable price levels -
