To promote high end products powered with ALPHA is something CPQ can do but can not confess in public. I think you already see news that DEC was in alliance with Samsung for Alpha and the road maps of ALPHA chips and product plan, and that DEC said ALPHA based high end products will continued and fully supported. Nothing more they can say about ALPHA !!!

Charles and Elmer,
The deal is that the Alpha fab is being sold to Intel. Samsung and Mitsubishi have agreements with DEC to also manufacture the Alpha. So, CPQ will have no ability to manufacture the Alpha themselves when the merger takes place (unless the government nixes the DEC/INTEL deal to sell the fab).
