I have tried to figure out what the range of possible valuations for Ligand at its current state could be.

If the street did figure out what fabulous prospects Ligand has the 33 million shares would not go very far to satisfy the possible demand for its shares.

As a comparison British Biotech BBIOY which is solidly unprofitable at least for this and the next year reached a peak market cap of close to $3 billion. If the street accepted the same market cap for Ligand that would result in a share price of $90 for Ligand in its current state.

For the possible downside I don't have a good idea. If we look at the chart we see that Ligand can easily drop 50% without any good reason. Dropping that far from todays prices would result in a price of $7.50

Henry: I read many of the posts on the thread about this small molecule but I am not sure how Lgnd makes money off this discovery and have many questions.

Will Lgnd be able to license this small molecule to companies with existing vaccines, who will then develop oral drugs?

Or did Lgnd just prove this small molecule science is feasible and everyone will now be exploring this method for which Lgnd may not gain anything finacially?

Henry,

"I suspect that the progress is much further along than what was presented for general consumption."

My experience supports the foregoing supposition. Good companies don't put too much of their leading thought out front for the competition to grab hold of unless it is strategically advantageous to do so.

Regards,

Walter

PS: (Off topic) I hope Nicole and Blue Lightening had a good day in Erie and the weather did not interfere with travel. I had hoped to go to the State College area tomorrow with one of my sons to do some early season fly-fishing but given the weather forecast, I postponed the trip.
