Paul, I think you have done an excellent and accurate analysis of Intel, CPQ, and Dell's current situation. As you know, things can change very quickly, but for the very short-term (next 3 months), Dell is in good shape, CPQ will be hurting, and Intel will be somewhere in the middle. Also, IMO, the DEC deal will also hurt CPQ's shareholders short-term as costs and expenses will easily outstrip any additional revenue, but the deal might work out longer-term. I got totally out of Compaq about a week or so ago during the run-up.

Have you heard anything about Dell's plans regarding Celeron??? Apparently, Kumar said only Sony, Micron, and Compaq are showing interest.

thanks,
joey

Paul -- Pardon me for asking an ignorant newbie question, but has Intel in the past or might they in the future consider developing their own operating system? Seems to me that there could be tremendous synergy and potential by having both CPUs and an OS under the same roof. Gates, at the recent Senate hearing, said that a bright innovator could replace Windows "in a day." Yeah, right! But it looks like it would be easier for Intel to start playing in Microsoft's sandbox than the other way around. If anyone could do it, I believe Intel could. Or should Intel stick to what it knows? Or does Intel have too many irons in the fire right now? Or would this be a great strategic long term move? Thanks!
