I myself thinking of learning Oracle/ S/W instead of Mechanical now.

I am also interested in getting into programming, as demand seems to be continuing very strong there. Of course, I programmed in college, in Fortran, assembly, and PL/1, but am not sure where the hot areas are now.

There seem to be hundreds of languages and sublanguages, and I'd appreciate any tips as to what areas are hot, and how best to get into them: (a) taking courses; (b) buying software, reading books and teaching myself; (c) try to find on-the-job-training.

I'm interested in neural networks. Is demand there picking up, or is that still too esoteric to be worth studying?
