"Monday March 9, 2:47 pm Eastern Time Company Press Release SOURCE: Orckit Communications Orckit to Show First European Live Demonstration of Splitterless ADSL and Full Range of DSL Solutions at CeBIT 98 State-of-the-Art ADSL in Joint Demos With Bosch Telecom, Fujitsu, Lucent, Axcent and Major Western European Operator CeBIT Exhibition: March 19-25, 1998, Hannover, Germany Orckit Booth: Hall 14, Stand J05 TEL AVIV, Israel, March 9 /PRNewswire -- Orckit Communications (Nasdaq: ORCTF - news) announced that the Company will demonstrate its new Splitterless ADSL for the first time in Europe at CeBIT 98 (Hannover, Germany). At the show, Orckit will also show three separate ADSL demonstrations jointly with Fujitsu Telecom, Bosch Telecom, Axcent, and with a major western European telecom operator that will be announced at the exhibition. Lucent Technologies will also be demonstrating Orckit's FastInternet System at CEBIT. ADSL, or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, is a modem technology that enables simultaneously high speed data transmission over existing telephone lines. Splitterless ADSL, also known as G.Lite, simplifies the customer end installation and wiring process. G.Lite has been strongly promoted recently by PC leaders Microsoft, Intel and Compaq, who aim at accelerating the availability of high speed Internet access via this modified version of ADSL. ''It is expected that G.Lite, or splitterless ADSL, modems will quickly become the de facto modem standard, replacing traditional analog modems,'' remarked Dan Arazi, Executive VP Marketing and Sales. At CeBIT 98, Orckit will be showcasing the Company's expertise in the full range of DSL solutions, including HDSL, ADSL over ISDN, ADSL over POTS, Splitterless ADSL, and VDSL. ''Orckit's ADSL systems will demonstrate the multimedia power of ADSL in high speed interactive applications, suitable for the home or small office,'' Arazi said. Orckit's ADSL products are currently deployed in several European and American trials, and are expected to be deployed commercially during this year. Orckit previously demonstrated splitterless ADSL jointly with North American partner Fujitsu Network Communications, at ComNet in Washington D.C. in January. Orckit is a member of the Universal ADSL Working Group founded by Microsoft, Compaq, Intel and several US telecom operators. Members of this Group are working towards fully interoperable systems, based around the forthcoming G.Lite Standard of the International Telecommunications Union."biz.yahoo.com
