Ah, yes! The music of the internal combustion engine at full song!
A speed shop about two blocks away used to run their hemis on
the dyno at midnight. They were in a commercial zone, under the
approach to LAX, so they could get away with it. There is power
in all of that sound energy, and the engineer who can take advantage of that free energy must find an effective way of muffling the noise
without strangling the engine. The BAT Super Car could be heard,
but it was not in the least bit loud. And I didn't hear any of the diesel
clanking, either. I could smell the exhaust, and there was a little
smoke that quit immediately after startup. The Magnum sportscar
was a little louder, but again, not offensively so. It definitely didn't
sound like a V-12 at 12,000 rpm...
