Phil,
I ran into that same [also got 2.9G size] problem with 1.1 for the 1st time recently during an update of a lot of files [use 2.0 but was still updating 1.1 monthly].
As I recall qp_rebld gave an error code, so I deleted the files and restored them from a backup.
Do need to back up that directory often enough to be able to catch up from the web site.
