Right on! We can't take the words of politicians seriously. While I was in London in early August 1992, I read in the papers that John Majors said that under no circumstances would his government devalue the pound. And guess what? The pound was devalued in late September 1992!

In September 1997, a couple of articles about George Soros appeared on this thread. In one of these articles, it was reported that the British government 'engineered' the devaluation of the pound with help of George Soros, and that the media at that time heaped blame on George Soros for having singlehandedly brought down the pound and forced its exit from the ERM (Exchange Rate Mechanism). Nice piece of machination on the part of the Tory Government, eh?
