My, my.... it's getting hot around here. Come on guys, its only cyber-folks engaging in cyber-talk.... so do try and have some sense of humour and perspective. Angst, flaming, name calling and personal challenges ain't cool. Sure, I'm only 3 days membership with SI and may not be familiar with the cyber-egos on this forum, but so what if some may view themselves as gurus, others as technical experts, and yet others as moral defenders? I'm OK with anyone wishing to expound their personal views and taking differing positions on NOVL ... after all this is what a forum is all about.... a think-tank. The more differing views, the merrier... will benefit all participants. If someone is a continuing pain to you... use the next button. Already I've come across some interesting insights and computerese analysis from the comments here which I couldn't have come up myself. And, don't worry (be happy), we're all adults here (safe to assume? :-)) and we can look after ourselves when making buy/sell decisions. Last week, I managed to catch the interview on CNBC with Eric (?) the CEO of NOVL. He commented that the progress is only "half way there". Now, was he just being truthful or smart. Was his comments intended to manage analysts, media, investors perceptions? Or does he really mean that it is too early for NOVL to show earnings. The stock price had jumped $1 day the previous day and another $1 the day of the nterview! Apparently, analysts loved the few cents earnings per share that met their expectations. (I can't figure out these analysts... how do they know the company better than the company itself?). They tell brokers, brokers tell clients, and these reliant folks felt it was the right time to buy (and they may be right... only time will tell). "Something interesting may be happening here," I thought to myself. After 3 years of downslide, is NOVL finally getting ahead of MFST Windows? Can Windows truly be adequate networking solutions for all but the smallest corporations? Will NOVL internet solutions surpass those of MFST? Is MFST getting too bogged down with the authorities on the monopoly issue? Is it (a) TIME TO BUY NOVL (b) SHOULD BUY, but too early (c) DON'T BUY cause NOVL remains a "has been" and MFST will continue to beat the pants out of it. Views anyone? And I promise, I will appreciate all points of views (and analogously, can't appreciate those with no views). Until my cheque arrives to SI, I'm only allowed 3 postings daily, so here are my resonses to those who wrote: Joe: thanks for your word of caution. Will check company's financials etc. before jumping in. Michael: What I meant is I've seen cases where audited statements did not help for investing purposes. Most recent example - Phlip Services (PHV)- $120 million of missing asset not caught by auditors over past 3 years. I think if a company intends to hide stuff on the balance sheet, it will be tough for auditors during a normal course of audit to catch ... what with budget restraints and the need to retain good relationships with clients. Based on personal observations, I tend to view audited statements as something better than nothing and not place too much reliance on them for investing decisions. After all, how many companies - especially the small caps - had showed apparent good health in the audited statements before going down? Seren: Appreciate your time in penning the long response. I take it you've seen lots over 30 years of investing and are entitled to definitive opinions on calling NOVL's up/down. Enjoy your vacation... with or without your assistant :-) more power to you, and talk to you when you're back. BTW, can anyone explain what PMFJI, EOM, LOL stand for? D.
